Urban Sound and Hydrodetour Ecology is walk led by Soundcamp SC, in partnership with Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Centre

Meeting: 12 noon at Thames-Side Studios Gallery, Thames-Side Studios (Harrington Way, Warspite Road Royal Borough of Greenwich SE18 5NR)

This is a unique opportunity to visit one of London’s most intriguing ecology parks (a set of specially created ponds by the River Thames) while being introduced to the sound world broadcast through soundcamp’s pioneering work.

Meet at Hydracity exhibition to listen to soundcamp’s live streaming and then walk along the Thames Pathway to arrive at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park (1pm ), to meet staff for a tour of the site and investigate the sound ecology streaming potential of this remarkable aquatic site.

From 2pm-4pm Streambox workshop and install with possible Hydrophonic listening of pond ecosystems.

This is a walk for anyone discover the unique ecology park at Greenwich Peninsula and encounter the possibilties of sound ecology to inspire and share other sensory experiences.

SC are an arts cooperative based in London, Crete and the The Hague. Work explores intersections among social, personal and environmental ecologies. SC initiated the Creative Europe small cooperation project: Acoustic Commons (2020-22), in partnership with arts organisations in Europe and Japan. Projects include the annual Reveil daybreak broadcast (3.3 million Twitter impressions on #Reveil2020), Biosphere Open Microphones (BIOM – with UNESCO) and PITCH – a project on indigenous soundworlds in development with Museum of the UN / UN Live.

For the workshop soundcamp will be setting up an experimental soundbox at Ecology Centre.

As a remote part of Hydracity Soundcamp (SC) will install an off-grid streambox or ‘Barking Box’ at Beckton Creek, London, where the river Roding discharges into the Thames. The device will relay live sounds to a public online platform, where listeners can exchange impressions and responses to the stream, via IRC chat. This will be the basis for a series of virtual and face to face listening events, generating an extended text record of audio observations over a year.

Hydrodetours Walks are integral part of InspiralLondon’s larger Hydracity project, to explore and map the hidden, lost or undervalued watery commons of London and the Thames Valley Delta.

From September 10 – 26 September visit HYDRACITY, an exhibition featuring the work of collectives, community groups, local and international artists, all exploring this watery commons, together.
