The empty plinth re:Spindle
On the 18th December 2021 InspiralLondon returned to the centre of the Trail, its beginning, curating a live collective walk from the empty plinth on Kings Cross Square – a ritual rewalking of other past events made from the trail’s starting point and spiraling out from the Square towards Euston.
Joined by enthusiastic inspirallers, undaunted by the current uncertainty, we gathered to walk the now empty plinth, 9 times anti clockwise, spinning off into the early evening – among the shadows and in the curved inspindling of shared histories, experiences, and knowledge. The walk proved to be incredibly rich and entertaining, with everyone contributing to this re-exploration of the first section of the trail.
” I must say that was a wonderful bit of flaneur/ dérive/inspiralling. Highly enjoyable; right at the centre and in the margin in the mist. Thanks for the lovely sloe gin, and hear hear to the toast to 2022.” (Richard Couzins)
This short but complex walk gave us an opportunity to reanimate the empty plinth of the Spindle, the starting point of the 300 mile spiral trail, now stripped of its Henry Moore sculpture, and return to the ground, something of the lost and hidden energies of Kings Cross, Somers Town and North Bloomsbury.
