November 3 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeMade in the Mardyke (Walking with InspiralLondon and T-100)
on Sunday 3 November 2024 10am – 1pm Turn up on the day at 10am.
Meet at 10 am at the entrance RSPB Visitor Centre, Rainham Marshes, Purfleet, RM19 1SZ (Transport links from London to Centre include C2C )
Join the first walk of three in a creative walking project led by inspiral director, Charlie Fox, in partnership with T-100 and made in the river collective (mitrcollective.com) as we walk together exploring the mouth of the Mardyke River and its interrelationship with The Thames; observing the Mardyke’s origin and its singular originality, and in celebrating the river’s creativity in refashioning waste material.
For this short circular walk by the Thames foreshore and back to the mouth of the Mardyke we examine the landscape with river eyes. It will allow us to feel, see and collect new hybrid materials along the pathway, that inspire us to make together masks, skins and creature costumes. The workshop following the walk will be a fun way to begin exploring the river, its neighbouring environments and other (non-human) inhabitants.
Mitrcollective have become experts in co-creating with rivers, in weaving new materials, into creature costumes and stories. For T-100 we will be walking the Mardyke, to think how it was made, how it makes, and exploring its own creativity to remake hybrid material. See here for mitrcollective.
Walk approx. 1.5 miles – please be prepared for weather and bring boots or other footware that can cope with wet conditions (e.g. Good walking boots or rubberboots)
