May 4 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Sanctuary, Refuge & Migration – sound, urban ecology and heritage walk led by Charlie Fox Please Book HERE

Walk starts from outside the Gatehouse entrance of Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Centre following TCV’s Dawn Chorus event at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park to arrive for the final events of Reveil soundcamp at Stave Hill Ecology Park. The walk will take approx 2 hours (from 8.30am -approx.10.30 am on Sunday 4th May).

This shared exploration of the Thames side environment comes after the GPEP/TCV Dawn Chorus walk led by an experienced and knowledgeable local birder (from 6:30am – 8.30am) that  celebrates International Dawn Chorus Day by listening and experiencing early morning birdsong on a guided birdwatching tour with local experts. There is tea and toast in the Gatehouse afterwards. This event is aimed at adults & older accompanied children. Details and booking HERE

Note: That this gentle early morning walk will follow along the inspirallondon trail as it skirts the Thames offering new insights into the intricate and complex histories of human and non-human migration/interaction. This walk is companiam walk for BlackHistory 365 celebrations and run by inspirallondon CIC  See https://www.inspirallondon.com/events/

This walk also follows from Tidal Migrations Livestream remote listening on locussonus soundmap for International Dawn Chorus Day and Reveil 13 (3-4 May 2025)

Artist and Inspirallondon associate Ian Thompson will be creating a livestream from the living roof of GPEP Gatehouse. This soundscape ranges across this unique urban wetland, nestled by the tidal Thames, near to its flow through the Thames Barrier.

Greenwich Peninsual Ecology Park: Adjoining Southern Park is a rich wildlife oasis that has played an important role in the area’s regeneration and community life since its creation in 2002.  With striking freshwater habitats and a wealth of wildlife this tranquil park is a stunning natural area for people to discover and enjoy in the heart of Greenwich Peninsula.

The Park includes two lakes surrounded by marshland, a small Alder woodland, a walk-in wildflower meadow and is home to a fascinating array of wildlife. Two bird hides allow fantastic views of the many birds that visit the park including winter species such as snipe and water rail and summer visitors such as reed warblers and swifts. It is a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation (SLINC). Whatever the season there is something for everyone – whether you enjoy bird spotting, watching wildlife or just relaxing in beautiful surroundings.
